We have been a Training Practice for nearly 30 years. Tom Nicholson-Lailey has been a Trainer since 1995. Tony was approved as a Trainer in 2009. Sheena has passed the Post Graduate Certificate of Medical Education with distinction. Kathryn Ward has considerable experience teaching medical students, and she and Vicky Greenwell both play a big part in training in the Practice. We function as a ‘learning organisation’, and there is no doubt that everyone benefits from this. Tom and Peter and Sheena are NHS Appraisers.
We serve a lively multicultural community and are based on the Cowley Road close to the City Centre. We are unique among Oxfordshire Training Practices in terms of the social, cultural and ethnic mix of our patients, approximately twenty per cent of whom originate from Pakistan, Bangladesh and India, with a further twelve per cent of African-Caribbean origin.
We work from a purpose built Health Centre which is the newest in Oxford and is highly rated by patients. Our Registrar has his/her own consulting room.
We offer a full range of services, including clinics for long term conditions, asthma, diabetes, minor surgery and child health surveillance. We work closely with the Community Mental Health Team who hold a weekly outpatient clinic at the Health Centre. We have CAB benefits advice clinics and Counselling within the Practice. Physiotherapy and Podiatry and GP Out of Hours Care are also accommodated in the East Oxford Health Centre building.
The practice is paper light and uses technology such as text messaging patients to remind of appointments, touch screen check-in, TV in waiting room, computerised dictation, Ice and Docman. We have revamped our website at www.Bartlemas.com. We accept email prescriptions, allow online booking of appointments and have a touch screen check in at the surgery.
We have been pleased to welcome Registrars from a wide variety of clinical backgrounds. Experience and teaching are tailored to fit the needs of the Registrar. Day-release to the Oxford VTS is for a full day and there is a free half day each week.
We would be happy to talk to prospective Registrars on the phone to provide further information, or to arrange an informal visit if wished. Please contact our current ST doctors for an alternative view. It is likely that you will find the attachment even more enjoyable if living locally.
